Belton, Copperas Cove, Killeen & Temple, TX - The Central Texas Economic Corridor (CTEC) and Workforce Solutions of Central Texas are currently gathering ideas from the area's young professionals in an effort to help shape the region's future. The first phase in ongoing research - an online survey - has recently been launched and will remain open to the public until January 16, 2009. The survey asks current residents why they chose to live in the region and asks former residents why they left, and what would bring them back. Although the survey is open to anyone, the responses of the 20-40 year olds will weigh heavily in the project. The survey can be accessed at http://centraltxtalent.blogspot.com/.

"With such a unique blend of industries, the Central Texas region boasts a mix that that many metropolitan areas cannot replicate," Susan Kamas, Executive Director of Texas Workforce Solutions of Central Texas said. "For a long time, we've been known for the military and healthcare in our region, however education, bioscience and a healthy mix of industry are leading the way to a very diverse economic future for our area."

CTEC and Workforce Solutions have enlisted the services of NExt Generation Consulting to help gather and analyze data, and facilitate inter-generational discussions about the region's priorities. This effort comes as leaders recognize that the next generation entering the workforce often picks a place to live first, and then looks for work. As Baby Boomers reach retirement age there will be a large void in the workforce. In order to bridge the gap, and keep the workforce strong, regional leaders must be aware and act on what the next generation desires in their community.

"What CTEC and workforce Solutions are doing is incredibly visionary; it is rare for a region to be so proactive in soliciting input from a constituency that's often overlooked," Rebecca Ryan, founder of Next Generation Consulting, said.

CTEC and Workforce Solutions hope to get more than 1,000 responses to the online survey, and will host a priority-setting session in February, 2009. The date and location for the session will be posted at http://centraltxtalent.blogspot.com/ when the details are finalized.
