Tyler Smith

Tyler Smith has been providing valued support to the Temple Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) and Temple College since August 2006. He has a co-sponsored position as the Director of Workforce Development, with his office located at the Temple College Downtown Center. In this position, Smith provides new and existing businesses with consultation services, training, and grant opportunities for workforce development.

With 20 years of experience in manufacturing and business, Smith has been able to strengthen partnerships between the industry/business base, Temple College and the Community Workforce.

Throughout his career, as a business and marketing manager, engineering and quality manager, and engineer, he has improved small to large business operations in business sectors that include commercial electronics, automotive, government contracting, and education. Smith's skill sets include business management, project management, contract management, process mapping, Six Sigma, statistical methods, TPS, Lean manufacturing, 5's, FMEA, MSA, problem solving, TS/ISO auditing and teaming-all disciplines focusing on operational excellence.

He has increased the training capabilities at Temple College through new training programs and the launch of a new welding facility. In partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission, he delivered a $500,000 grant to McLane Advanced Technologies.

Smith holds a B.S. in Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University, and attended Illinois Central College for Mechanical Design. He was issued a design patent while employed at Honeywell. Other technical and personal development training includes Experimental Design, DOE and Statistical Process training.
